Clarks Bay from Salvo

Clarks Bay from Salvo Professional Review and Guide

"Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo are three small towns on NC–12 that seem to blend together. It’s very hard to tell where one stops and the other begins. The name Salvo originates from an incident during the Civil War. Once called Clarksville, a naval officer told his crew to “give it a salvo,” meaning a wave of gunfire. The name has stuck to this day. Things don’t change much here from year to year, at least as far as traditions go.

The folks around here still observe “Old Christmas” on the night of January 5, a carryover from Epiphany, which is celebrated January 6. As you near the end of civilization and reenter the National Park Service property, you will see a beach access on your left. The field on your right used to be a National Park Service Campground, but it was closed due to lack of funding."
