Goldmine Loop — Tunnel Bypass Trail

Goldmine Loop — Tunnel Bypass Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Psst. Want to escape the maddening crowds of peak leaf season in the Great Smokies? Especially that conga line of traffic slowly snaking out of Cherokee, North Carolina, on its 35-mile way along US Route 441 to Tennessee’s Gatlinburg?

Then quietly sneak out of Cherokee and make a beeline down US Route 19 for Bryson City and little-known Lakeview Drive with access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You won’t find the stunning vistas to be had from atop Clingmans Dome. But you won’t find people elbowing their way up the trail, either. What you will find is an intimate 3.9-mile loop taking in the Goldmine Loop and the seemingly erroneously named Tunnel Bypass trails."

6.63 miles with gorge in middle of loop. The sign at the beginning of the trail says no dogs. Beautiful fall trail. And campsite. Not too strenuous with a creepy tunnel.
