The West Fork of the French Broad forms as drainage between Round Mountain and Big Pisgah Mountain in Pisgah National Forest. It runs quietly through a valley for several miles before entering a short, steep gorge below where it confluences with the North, East, and Middle Forks to form the French Broad. This run starts off with a bang—the three largest rapids come in the first mile of the run. Below the first mile, the river settles into a fun Class II–III pace. This section is runnable only after extended rainfall.
