French Broad River: Rosman Public Access in Champion Park on US 64 to US 70/25 Bridge in Tennessee Professional Review and Guide
"The French Broad is formed in the vicinity of Rosman, North Carolina, where the North Fork, West Fork, Middle Fork, and East Fork join together. The upper reaches of the river are primarily flat, flowing over shallow shoals alternating between farmlands and wooded areas. It is ideal for quiet float trips. From Asheville down to Hot Springs, the river cuts through a more mountainous area and changes complexion greatly as the volume and gradient increase.
It becomes a wide, powerful force, flowing through scenic gorges, over series of ledges, and through large boulders. The river here requires a much higher level of skill from the paddler. Below Hot Springs, the river slows down to flat stretches interspersed with rapids, along with some outstanding rock formations, such as Paint Rock and Chimney Rock."
