Widow’s Creek Falls

Widow’s Creek Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"If you are ready for a break after hiking the strenuous Stone Mountain Loop Trail, be pleased to discover the 30-foot Widow’s Creek Falls a short distance off the road on a relatively flat trail. Many stories attempt to account for the name Widow’s Creek. A friend of ours who lives in Winston- Salem explained, “At one time a string of widows lived near the creek.” A ranger told me a tale about how at least one husband (a miner) could have died. He was panning for gold and fell off the falls while trying to retrieve the tools he’d lost in the creek."

"Abruptly rising from the earth, Stone Mountain is certainly the highlight of the park, a park so large that it spans two counties. This magnificent state park also houses a little hidden gem known as Widow’s Creek Falls. A short, easy hike leads to this two-tiered waterfall. An inviting swimming hole at the base makes this one ideal for the entire family to splash about in the clear mountain water of Widow’s Creek." Read more
