The trail follows an old logging road that soon meets up with Widow’s Creek about a half-mile above the falls. (Don’t deceive yourself into thinking that if you simply follow the creek up from the falls you will find the trail; passage is nearly impossible thanks to a dense tangle of streamside rhododendron.) For the next couple of miles, the trail alternates between snug passage along the creek under a canopy of oak and hickory and climbs through steeper portions of the ravine well above the creek. These higher passages often take you through towering hemlock and rhododendron.
