Lake Johnson Park: East Loop of Walnut Creek Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Lake Johnson Park is in west Raleigh, 6 miles or a 12-minute drive from downtown. The park centers on Lake Johnson, and the main trail in the park, the Lake Johnson segment of Walnut Creek Trail, circles the shore of the lake. The unpaved west loop of Walnut Creek Trail is less used and great for running if you are interested in a more cushioned surface to run on or enjoy hiking in more of a wilderness setting. The east loop of the Walnut Creek Trail, the longer of the two loops, is a 2.8-mile paved trail that starts at the boathouse and begins by crossing over a narrow section of Lake Johnson via a long, elevated boardwalk. The boardwalk is a nice start to the trail and offers great views of the lake, as well as an opportunity to fish if you bring your pole and tackle along. While the entire east loop may be a bit long for very young children, the walk onto the elevated boardwalk with views of the lake is recommended."
