Historic Yates Mill County Park

Historic Yates Mill County Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike not only explores historic and photogenic Yates Mill and its adjacent pond, but also nearby wetlands, tributaries, and hills on well-marked and maintained foot trails. The nature center here is worth a visit too.

Yates Mill County Park truly deserves the “Historic” moniker at the beginning of its name, for it is the only operating mill left in Wake County of the seventy that were once scattered throughout the district. A mill, dam, and pond were first located here at Steep Hill Creek back in the mid-1700s, when North Carolina was still a British colony."

"Yates Mill Park is one of the most pristine parks in the region and is home to a breathtaking diversity of plant and animal species. Begin your hike by crossing the pond boardwalk and exploring the nearby wetlands. Then return to the pond, where you’ll discover historic Yates Mill, the only operational gristmill in Wake County."
