Mill Creek forms just south of the Tennessee Valley Divide in Pisgah National Forest. It is a tributary of the Catawba River. Of special note is the Geyser passed on the way to the put-in. This manmade tourist attraction, powered by a spring, was developed in 1879. The town of Old Fort has turned it into a picnic area. Also nearby is the old US 70 grade up to Black Mountain, which is a popular mountain biking ride.
