Outer Banks Cruise

Outer Banks Cruise Professional Review and Guide

"Your ride begins on Ocracoke Island, the southernmost island of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. In the course of the ride, you hop a ferry to Hatteras Island and make a turnaround at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

The Cape Hatteras museum makes a great destination with its incredible portrayal of the U.S. Life-Saving Service at the turn of the century. An explanation of the various fishing methods and native wildlife allow for a greater appreciation of life in the area. Each of the islands have their own historic lighthouse, all in danger of being reclaimed by the sea. Terrain: flat with prevailing winds blowing northeast. Beware of sand blown onto the road."

The lighthouse at Cape Hatteras is not only one of the most recognizable in the US, but also one of the highlights of this ride. The beauty of riding the outer banks of North Carolina lies in the ability to start virtually anywhere between Wilmington and Kitty Hawk, and see all of the beautiful sights in between. If you're lucky you might catch the wind just right on your trip through some of the more secluded towns and find yourself in a honey of a paceline on this flat, flat road. There is fun to be had on the OBX.
