Nags Head Woods and Jockey's Ridge

Nags Head Woods and Jockey's Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"You can’t miss Jockey’s Ridge. This huge sand dune is the tallest on the East Coast. Surrounded by Jockey’s Ridge State Park, Jockey’s Ridge is between 110 and 140 feet tall, depending on the winds and weather. It’s always on the move.

The prevailing winds move the ridge from southwest to northeast and back again. It’s great fun to climb the hill and then either run or roll down. During the winter months, when this area gets a rare dusting of snow, you’ll find locals skimming down the slope on body boards and anything else that slides."

Jockey’s Ridge is a wonderful attraction and state park. A section of the MTS trail is found in parts of the park. As far as hiking goes, very easy and family friendly. The visitors center has good history and information on the park. Happy hiking🙂
