Hanging Dog Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Then people think of Smoky Mountain country, they picture rolling mountains, deep forests, and rushing streams. That’s what comes natural. However, when the white man came here, he started the unnatural job of building dams for flood control, power generation, and recreation.
The hilly terrain of the Southern Appalachians proved to be fertile ground for creating lakes, and now we have an abundance of scenic lakes that seemingly have mountains growing right out of them. Much of the land around these lakes is owned by you and me, courtesy of the U.S. Forest Service. Along some lakes, the Forest Service has built campgrounds that enable us to enjoy some of these bodies of water. Hanging Dog Campground is just such a place."
