Potecasi Creek Professional Review and Guide
"Potecasi Creek is the largest tributary of the Meherrin River in North Carolina. Its headwaters begin in creeks and swamps just to the east of the Roanoke River watershed, east and southeast of Roanoke Rapids. This eTrail contains 1 section of Potecasi Creek from US 158 bridge to Parkers Ferry Road (Hertford Co. 1306) ferry landing on the Meherrin River.
Major tributaries of the Chowan River are Bennetts Creek, Meherrin River, Potecasi Creek, and Wiccacon River. The Chowan River empties into Albemarle Sound near Edenton. The Chowan Basin is part of the Albemarle-Pamlico estuary, the second largest estuary in the United States. The basin contains large cypress and tupelo-gum tree swamps. Merchants Millpond State Park, 3,252 acres, is an excellent example of a blackwater swamp in this area. The Chowan Swamp Game Land protects almost 11,000 acres and borders the Chowan River."
