The Mitchell flows off the foothills of the Blue Ridge to join the Yadkin. It is a fast, low-water stream traveling over small ledges and through rock gardens. The water quality is generally quite good, and the heavily wooded banks give the impression of complete wilderness. If the water table remained at a high enough level much of the year, this would surely be one of North Carolina’s most popular float streams.
