U.S. Whitewater Center: North Trails Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The U.S. Whitewater Center is an urban playground for the outdoor enthusiast. There are numerous activities and amenities to keep you occupied and entertained for an entire day—or more. The center boasts more than 13 miles of trails for hikers, including the scenic North Trails Loop, which follows moderate terrain beside the perimeter of the center before contouring the Catawba River back to the trailhead.

The U.S. Whitewater Center is to the outdoor enthusiast what Disney World is to a young child. Opened in August 2006, the center offers a climbing tower, zip line, challenge course, multichannel whitewater river, eco-caching adventures, bike rentals, and yes—hiking trails. To begin the scenic North Trails Loop, start from the green flags in the parking lot and hike downhill on the gravel trail."

"This popular route at the U.S. National Whitewater Center leaves from the main trailhead parking and follows the North Main Trail, exploring many of the outdoor-adventure opportunities you can experience while visiting the center. Along this path you’ll pass under a fascinating ropes course, where you’re likely to see adventurous folks working their way through the forest canopy, following the cables and ropes that guide them from platform to platform. From here the trail descends to the boat launch, where rafters and kayakers can access the Catawba River. The trail follows along the Catawba River and explores the surrounding forest before reaching the manmade river, where you can sit and watch whitewater rafters battle the rapids. Speeding over the whitewater river are those brave enough to tackle the high-speed zip line that stretches from the welcome center. You will follow along the man-made whitewater river before returning to the forest and then back to the trailhead where you started. The hike is easy and highly recommended. If you’re the type to get bored with a hike through nothing but a forest, this is the trail for you. It will keep even the most easily bored among us captivated and interested in what comes around the next bend."

"The trails that surround the whitewater course and the sprawling center traverse rolling hills bordered by the Catawba River and dotted with lakes. A steep hill near the beginning of the trail descends to level walking, and a steep hill toward the end of trail climbs back up to the trailhead."

Great mountain biking trail for kids and beginners. I have been mountain biking for 12 years and still enjoy this trail.
