Dutchmans Creek Trail: Upper Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This loop hike tackles some of the most rugged terrain in the Uwharrie Mountains, a scenic outlier range laced with trails and public lands from Morrow Mountain State Park to the 50,000-plus- acre Uwharrie National Forest. After leaving Yates Place Camp, this hike drops to meet the long- distance Uwharrie Trail, where it turns south, rolling through hills to visit Dutchmans Creek. From there, the trail scales a knob then cruises a hilltop flat. Next, visit the Little Island Creek drainage, enjoying the flowery valley.
The challenges then begin as you scale a series of rocky hills before reaching lower Dutchmans Creek. A rewarding walk up this stream recalls the western Carolina mountains. The final highlights are a seasonal waterfall on a tributary of Dutchmans Creek and an old homesite before finishing the circuit hike."
