South Mountains State Park Professional Review and Guide
"No matter what your pleasure, South Mountains State Park has a trail for you—more than 40 miles’ worth designed for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Whether you take a hike up to High Shoals Falls or ride your horse to the top of Ben Knob, you are certain to enjoy the forested South Mountains that comprise this park.
The park offers backcountry camping, which entails packing in all your gear and hiking anywhere from 1.2 to more than 5 miles. There are also two developed campgrounds on the property. The family campground is small, primitive, and offers lots of privacy, but its designers did not have RVs in mind. The equestrian campground is much larger and can accommodate large RVs and
horse trailers, but you must have a horse with you to camp here."
