Poe Ridge Professional Review and Guide
"This hike explores the shoreline and hills of Jordan Lake, near where this impoundment is dammed. Start behind the US Army Corps of Engineers office, where you can enjoy fine lake views, then drop steeply to trace the shoreline, where more aquatic vistas can be had. Turn away from the lake to climb Poe Ridge, traversing great oak forests back to the trailhead. Two shortcut paths allow you to alter the route.
Poe Ridge runs northeast–southwest very near Jordan Dam. A fine loop trail was created atop the ridge and along Jordan Lake, starting at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center. However, the parking lot has limited hours, so if you cannot get your hike in during the hours the visitor center gates are open, there is an alternative access. The Poe Ridge Boat Ramp is open 24 hours a day, but there is a parking fee. No matter where you park, expect to enjoy some superior lake views on a singletrack hiking path that has a fair amount of undulation.
The hike starts behind the visitor center. Make sure and soak in the view from the observation deck overlooking Jordan Dam. This elevated vista gives you an idea of the massiveness of the lake and the forested shores that surround it."
