North Toe River and Toe River: Avery CR 1164 Bridge at Minneapolis to National Forest Service (NFS) Put-In at Poplar Professional Review and Guide

"The North Toe heads up east of Minneapolis in the vicinity of Newland. It moves south through a mountainous area until it turns west entering the Toe Valley, which is widely known for its mineral deposits. Below the junction with the South Toe, the river gets considerably wider and becomes known as the Toe.

From the Toe’s confluence with the Cane the Nolichucky is born. There are several areas of outstanding scenic beauty, in particular the rock formations between the US 19 East bridges just north and south of Ingalls. Unfortunately, much of the natural beauty is marred by the grayish color of the water from Spruce Pine down the rest of the river. This is the result of the many mica mines and feldspar plants in the area. Although the quality of the water is rather poor, it has improved considerably."
