Neuse River

Neuse River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Locally known as Flann ers Beach, this revamped bluffside campground on the lower Neuse River is a fine recreation destination. The well-kept camp received a face-lift after storm damage from a series of hurricanes in the late 1990s, most notably Hurricane Fran in 1996. A paved hiking and biking trail loops through the campground. Flanners Beach, a sandy shoreline along the tidally influenced lower Neuse River, has been a swimming and waterside recreation destination for a long time."

This area has a paved path that winds around several campsites. Although it is a scenic area with many trees, if there are lots of campers, it will not be a quiet hike. Part of the trail splits off and rejoins, which provides another few minutes of walking. Overall, nice if you're already there, but not worth the drive just for this trail. By the way, Flanners Beach is blocked off because of reconstruction due to damage earlier in the year. You can find paths from the hiking trail down to the beach, but it is a narrow area and sits below the area of hiking trails.
