Appalachian Trail Professional Review and Guide
"You may never hike the entire 2175-mile Appalachian Trail, but you can hike a section of it. And if you hike the 7.9-mile section heading south from the Nantahala Outdoor Center at the right time of year, there’s a good chance you may encounter someone hiking the whole enchilada. One of the highlights of this trail isn’t the trail itself, but where it begins. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is an East Coast mecca for whitewater kayaking and canoeing. From the bridge linking the NOC’s two sections, you can watch playboaters do summersaults, cartwheels, and assorted other tricks in the various playholes just downstream."
