Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site: Reed Mine Hike Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Reed Gold Mine is one of the best places to take children hiking near Charlotte. Between gold panning, walking through an underground mine shaft, and visiting the Stamp Mill, you will forget that you are even exercising. This route starts at the Reed Gold Mine Visitor Center. If you choose to take the underground mine shaft tour, then it will also be the start of your hike. Nevertheless, don’t worry if you are claustrophobic or don’t have time for a tour, because you can also take an outdoor route up to the nearby mine shafts and engine house remains on the Upper Hill.

Descending from the Upper Hill, the hike explores the restored Stamp Mill before traveling over the beautiful wooden boardwalks beside Little Meadow Creek. At the top of Lower Hill, you will pass by several of the remnants of the mining operation before heading to the panning operation and exploring the west side of the property to conclude the hike."
