McDowell Nature Preserve Lake Wylie Trail

McDowell Nature Preserve: Lake Wylie Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike combines the best of McDowell Nature Preserve: beautiful hardwood forests and dramatic lakefront views. By starting at the nature center, the route will first travel through a woodland forest to the nearby Chestnut Trail. The path in this section is lined with beech trees and slender seasonal creeks.

Eventually you come out of the forest at the banks of Lake Wylie. Here you will trace the shoreline past the McDowell waterfront all the way to the picnic shelter and pier at the northern portion of the preserve. Lakeside benches, replete with aquatic vistas, beckon you to sit a spell before retracing the shoreline back to the Chestnut Trail. A connector trail then leads you back through the woods and toward the McDowell Nature Center to conclude your hike."
