McDowell Nature Preserve: Lake Wylie Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This hike combines the best of McDowell Nature Preserve: beautiful hardwood forests and dramatic lakefront views. By starting at the nature center, the route will first travel through a woodland forest to the nearby Chestnut Trail. The path in this section is lined with beech trees and thin seasonal creeks. Eventually you will come out of the forest at the banks of Lake Wylie. Here you will trace the shoreline past the McDowell waterfront all the way to the picnic shelter and pier at the northern portion of the preserve. There are plenty of lakeside benches on which to sit and rest before retracing the shoreline back to the Chestnut Trail. A connector trail will then lead you back through the woods and toward the McDowell Nature Center to conclude your hike."
