Summit and Rhododendron Trails — Mount Jefferson State Natural Area

Summit and Rhododendron Trails — Mount Jefferson State Natural Area Professional Review and Guide

"Mount Jefferson State Natural Area, named for Thomas Jefferson, whose family owned land nearby, is a 600-acre state natural area in Ashe County that is botanically diverse, scenically lovely, and perfect for hiking with dogs.

A nice time to visit is in early June when wildflowers are abundant and the Catawba rhododendron are in bloom, but this is an enjoyable trail any time of year, including in fall—when the many hardwood leaves morph into beautiful colors."
