Perquimans River Professional Review and Guide
"The Perquimans River originates in the southern portion of the Great Dismal Swamp. Beginning as a narrow blackwater stream, it widens quickly approaching Hertford and becomes more than a mile wide where it empties into Albemarle Sound. This eTrail contains 1 section of the Perquimans River from NC 37 bridge Belvidere to Missing Mill Park access at Hertford off Grubb Street.
It contains 3,635 square miles of low-lying lands and vast open waters, including Albemarle Sound. Many small water-
sheds drain into Albemarle, Currituck, Croatan, Roanoke, and Pamlico Sounds. One of these is the Pasquotank River for which the basin is named. A small portion of the basin extends into Virginia. Major tributaries on the northwestern side of Albemarle Sound are the Pasquotank, Little, and Perquimans Rivers."
