I completed a section of the Neusiok on February 15, 2018. I began at the parking lot on Rt. 101 and headed North to Rt. 306. The distance was 2.5 miles. I stopped for lunch and the doubled back to my truck on Rt. 101. So I hiked approximately 5 miles
The beginning was over approximately 6-7 hundred yards of board walk. There was water on the trail in some area. However it was not overly swampy. The bugs/mosquitos were nil. I did wear bug spray. I saw 2 black snakes. The terrain was mostly flat and densely forest with a mixture of pine and hardwood. I saw no four legged friends including squirrels.
I was was scouting this trail for a longer hike next week with four friends. My hike started at 11:05 AM and finished at 2:00PM

Feb. 23rd. My grand daughters birthday. Myself and four friends set out at Rt. 101 and headed north about 9:15 AM. I had been on this section a week ago by myself. I had been scouting the trail for this week''s hike with my friends. It was a great day. The temp was cool 57 degrees when we started out. It was cloudy and no rain was expected. Again there were no bugs out yet. In fact we we not bothered by them all day.
We crossed Rt. 306 and kept going north. This section was super nice. The trail was now rolling up and down and the landscape thinned out a little- less dense. We crossed a few creeks on bridges. The trail was well marked too. When we got to a little shelter (I forgot the name) to stop for lunch we met "Gunner" and his pup. He is one of the caretakers of the trail. We had a nice conversation while we ate. The sun had come out and it was just perfect. As we proceeded north going through another section of woods it opened up to our west where we could see one of the tributaries of the Neuse
