Croatan National Forest — Neusiok Trail

Croatan National Forest — Neusiok Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Neusiok spans the midsection of the Pamlico Peninsula, a wild, low-lying area between the 4-mile-wide Neuse River to the north and the Newport River to the south. Trail development was spearheaded in the 1970s by the Carteret County Wildlife Club and is highly unusual for a trail at the coast.

Most coastal trails don’t dare bite off more than a mile or two, perhaps operating under an assumption that the sometimes harsh coastal conditions will discourage most hikers. The Neusiok Trail goes on and on, for nearly 21 miles."

Nice pine-straw rooty trail that winds through a typical NC coastal swamp. Beautiful ferns and large Pines and a verity of raised wood walkways keep you feet dry ! I don’t know about trying it in July or August with the humidity even though it’s relatively flat. But nothing beats a pine forest for a quiet walk ! Have at it !
