Peninsula Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This trek skirts the shores of Harris Lake, a scenic impoundment in southern Wake County. The hiker-only path never runs far from shore, except to cross the peninsula on which it lies. You’ll see ponds, old homesites, and a restored longleaf pine forest amid nearly constant quality scenery.

Overshadowed by Jordan Lake and Falls Lake, Harris Lake can hold its own in splendor, as proven by a hike on the Peninsula Trail. True to its name, the Peninsula Trail circles an arrow-shaped point of land jutting into Harris Lake. In fact, the
entirety of Harris Lake County Park is situated on this peninsula dividing the Oak Creek arm of the lake from the Little Branch arm. Duke Energy dammed Beaver Creek just before it flows into its mother stream, the Cape Fear River, to provide water for the Harris Nuclear Power Plant, creating Harris Lake."
