Cape Lookout National Seashore Cape Lookout Primitive Camping

Cape Lookout National Seashore: Cape Lookout Primitive Camping Professional Review and Guide

"This splendid, undeveloped island has a lighthouse, an abundance of birdlife, and miles of shoreline you can explore on foot or in your four-wheel-drive vehicle. Neighboring Shackleford Island, home to herds of wild horses and historic Portsmouth Village, is just a quick boat ride away.

Camping is allowed anywhere on the beach, within the rules provided by the NPS. You can access Cape Lookout with your own private boat or take the ferry over. Ferries are completely weather dependent, so be sure to call ahead to confirm that the ferries are running."
