With a name like Lake Norman, this state park is obviously a water-oriented destination. In that regard, it doesn’t disappoint. Nearly the entire preserve is situated on a peninsula jutting into this impoundment, located just north of the greater Charlotte area. So it’s no surprise that the park campground is by the water and that the park has a swim area, a boat launch, shore fishing, and a hiking trail that curves along the lake. If that’s not enough water, there’s more—Lake Norman State Park has its own small lake where you can rent canoes and paddleboats.
