The historic Battlefield Trail starts at Kings Mountain National Military Park Visitor Center and retraces the significant plot of land where the Patriots defeated the Loyalists in a critical victory that turned the tide of the American Revolution in the South. The paved trail is technically handicapped-accessible, but all hikers should be prepared for the brief steep climb to the summit of Kings Mountain. There are two monuments along the short ridgeline of the mountain. The first, located at the summit of the mountain, is the Centennial Monumenterected by the descendants of the valiant Patriots who fought at Kings Mountain. The second is a tall white obelisk, commissioned by Congress and dedicated in 1909. Beyond the two, the entire journey is filled with information plaques, Major Patrick Fergusons gravestone, and other significant points of interest.
