Greensboro Trails Professional Review and Guide

"Greensboro’s Lake Brandt watershed is unique in a state where many reservoirs are subdivision sites for million-dollar McMansions. At least for now, there’s a relative lack
of development and a growing network of wonderful trails, even newly preserved land, such as the Richardson-Taylor tract, where the new, volunteer-built Bill Craft Trail is a premier day hike.

On the way from Greensboro, before hiking these trails, consider sampling the Greensboro Science Center, a growing nature museum, planetarium, and zoo of regional significance (greensboroscience .org; 336-288-3769). Descriptions of the following trails are included: Greensboro Watershed Trails; The Latham Park and Lake Daniel Greenways; Greensboro Gardens—Arboretum, Bog Garden, and Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden; Guilford Courthouse National Military Park."

I ran/hiked the Piedmont trail which is approximately 6 miles out and back from the trailhead to the trails end. The trailhead is on the west side of Lake Brandt Rd about .25 miles north of the Lake Brandt dam. The trail generally follows close to the Lake Brandt shoreline but is heavily wooded and very shady with only a few open sections. The trail is dirt with some up and down but nothing very strenuous. Expect some gnarly (rocks & exposed roots) sections. Overall I would rate this trail as 100% runnable.
