1 mile round trip paved, fairly steep, but pretty easy.

An all around great hike. The campsites were all very large and spread out - very private. Beautiful streams at the lower elevations and the fire tower at the top makes for some of the most stunning views in the Smokies.

Incredible views, but absolute packed. Hundreds of people and just as many cars in the parking lot. Passed dozens of people pulling children along and pushing strollers. I'd go to Clingman's again only as a jumping off point for other trails.

Easy paved trail to the top, but it's neat because the AT crosses here and from the top on a clear day you can see for miles.

For a Dad/Son hike this was definitely a 5 star hike. Walnut bottoms was a beautiful site and the views from Mount Sterling were the best I have experienced in the Smokies; even better than LaConte. The weather was great. My son and I got up early to see the sunrise from the fire tower; cold, but great.
