Balsam Mountain Trail

Balsam Mountain Trail is a hiking and horse trail in Haywood County and Swain County, North Carolina. It is within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is 9.9 miles long and begins at 4,424 feet altitude. Traveling the entire trail is 19.9 miles with a total elevation gain of 3,668 feet. The Pin Oak Gap saddle is near the trailhead. Ledge Bald (elevation 5,177 feet), the Laurel Gap Shelter shelter, the Laurel Gap Shelter (elevation 5,896 feet) camp site, and the Laurel Gap saddle can be seen along the trail. The trail ends near the Tricorner Shelter (elevation 5,896 feet) camp site. This trail connects with the following: Appalachian Trail, Beech Gap Trail, Gunter Fork Trail and Mount Sterling Ridge Trail.
