This section of the Bartram Trail roughly follows the Nantahala River downstream from Nantahala Lake toward the Nantahala Gorge made famous by rafters, canoeists, and kayakers. “Roughly follows” is a good description for two reasons: the trail is hard to follow in places because it repeatedly jumps on and off old logging roads at its beginning, and despite the perceived level nature of the riverside, it makes a lot of ups and downs along the entire section.
