This hike starts by heading north and looping around Lake Crandall, before veering southwest to meet the Norfolk Southern Railroad line and Steele Creek. The route then parallels the creek and crosses over several suspension bridges before arriving at the Webb Grist Mill. The modern structure is a reconstruction of the historic mill built in the 1770s that helped to give Fort Mill its name. From there the path continues along the creek to view an old millstone that has now been turned into a monument to commemorate the original grist mill. The trail then leaves the cool, shaded banks of Steele Creek and returns to the trailhead parking lot on the scenic but exposed Prairie Loop.
