Cable Cove Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Recent history is a theme of sorts for this charming and sedate campground, which sits on former farmland once tilled by the Cable family. After World War II began, the demand for aluminum and the power to manufacture it soared, leading to the construction of nearby Fontana Dam.
Begun in 1942 and used to generate power to produce aluminum for the war, the dam remains an important source of energy. Prior to flooding behind the dam, the farming families moved away. The U.S. Forest Service moved in, later establishing a campground in the hollow."
