Paddled - mostly portaged, crawled over trees, and manuevered around snags - from Hwy 217 to Ross Road. Minimal whitewater. This would be a beautiful trip if it weren't for all the downed trees. A clear "blackwater" stream of high water quality with almost no development along this section. It's a shame you can't paddle it! Hwy 217 access is OK near the bridge, but parking isn't convenient. Access and parking from Hwy 401 is very good and access off Ross Road is easy and well maintained by adjacent landowners. It's hard to judge water levels as there is no USGS gauge. This waterway is highly influenced by rain in the upstream areas of Sanford and Lillington. The gauge painted on the bridge at Ross Road is helpful per Ferguson's book.
