Mitchell River Professional Review and Guide
"The Mitchell River watershed begins at an elevation above 3,000 feet on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Alleghany County, northeast of Stone Mountain State Park. It flows southeast without passing through any towns and joins the Yadkin River, 5 miles northeast of Elkin. The Mitchell River, upstream of the South Fork, is classified as Outstanding Resource Waters.
The South Fork brings in much sediment. Efforts are underway to restore the South Fork. The Piedmont Land Conservancy is working with public agencies, private organizations, and landowners to secure permanent protection along the Mitchell River. Several tracts have already been conserved. This eTrail contains 2 sections of the Mitchell River from Kapps Mills Road (Surry Co. 1330) bridge to NC 268 bridge."
