Uwharrie Mountains: Uwharrie National Forest Professional Review and Guide
"A 34-mile paved and gravel route that winds through the ancient Uwharrie Mountains and the Uwharrie National Forest, past rivers, a lake, a covered bridge, and many hiking opportunities. This drive winds through the northern part of the Uwharrie Mountains past fields, farms, woods, and a covered bridge to an idyllic campground on the shore of Badin Lake. Most of the route is paved, although a few segments near the end are gravel. In general, the entire route is suitable for everything but very large trailers or RVs.
Although the gravel surfaces seem quite good, use care when they are wet. Special attractions: Uwharrie National Forest, Uwharrie Mountains, Pisgah Covered Bridge, Birkhead Mountain Wilderness, Badin Lake, hiking, fishing, boating, scenic views, and fall colors. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
