The North Carolina Botanical Garden, administered by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is 5 miles southeast of downtown Chapel Hill. In 1744 the first European settler in Chapel Hill chose this location for his homesite, and today you can explore the garden by following the paved paths throughout. The route begins at the Education Center and follows the main path. From here, you walk through 14 collections and display gardens and have the opportunity to examine more than 2,100 species of plants and trees.
