Durham City Sights Professional Review and Guide
"Durham, a city set in the center of a state in the hot South, is surprisingly cool looking, even when temperatures climb. Abundant trees in downtown—particularly on Main Street—and small urban parks, many with the cool sound of water fountains, help Durham feel cool; its nickname is City of Trees.
When the trees leaf out, you feel like you are walking through an urban forest of tall buildings fronted with crepe myrtles, maples, and oaks. Spring brings flowering forsythia, azaleas, and dogwoods to enhance the greening of downtown. In the winter, bare trees allow the walker an even better view of the buildings. Even a January walk can be pleasant in this Southern city. Special attractions: Historic landmarks, varied architecture, Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Carolina Theatre, urban parks, art galleries, outdoor murals."
