Duke Forest Road Professional Review and Guide

"Duke Forest is owned by Duke University and comprises nearly 8,000 acres of recovered farmlands and patches of forest purchased during and since the mid-1920s. The forest is sectioned into six divisions spanning four counties. Since the Duke Forest is an active teaching and research facility for Duke University, including its forestry program, regular timber harvests occur and alter the habitat.

Habitats: Pine forest, mixed pine-hardwood, variously aged regenerating areas, upland oak-hickory, New Hope Creek riparian corridor. Key birds: Summer: Great Crested Flycatcher; Hooded Warbler; Summer and Scarlet Tanager; Blue Grosbeak; Indigo Bunting. Year-round: Brown-headed Nuthatch; Red-headed Woodpecker."
