Heintooga-Round Bottom Road: Great Smoky Mountains National Park Professional Review and Guide
"A 35-mile paved and gravel road through a scenic but lightly visited part of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you are tired of the crowds in some parts of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, try the Heintooga–Round Bottom Road. I took my time along the gravel section of the road and saw only a half-dozen cars in 3 hours on a fall-color weekend. The road offers great views from the top of Balsam Mountain, plus lush forest and rushing mountain streams. Part of the route is a narrow, one-way gravel road, which is not suitable for trailers or large RVs.
However, it is generally well graded. Sedans can easily drive this circuit if reasonable care is used. Special attractions: Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee Indian Reservation, Mingo Falls, hiking, fishing, fall colors, mountain biking, and scenic views. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
