Ribbonwalk Urban Trail

Ribbonwalk Urban Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike explores Ribbonwalk Urban Forest, a 200-acre natural jewel near the heart of downtown Charlotte. The start of the trail skirts the Ribbonwalk forest wetlands and wanders through the woods to a covered bridge.

After exploring the open meadow past the bridge, the trail weaves through a treasured grove of beech trees more than a hundred years old and then passes beside an active beaver habitat before returning to the trailhead through a hardwood forest."

"Take a walk in a deep forest island surrounded by urbanity. Located on Nevin Road off Statesville Avenue, this quaint nature preserve is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and shopping centers. That said, when you are hiking on the trails that weave through the park, you feel like you are in the middle of a wild forest, far away from the city. Several highlights are found along the hike, including a scenic covered bridge that leads to Hawk Meadow." Read more

I loved the park but I was not expecting 2 sections of the Irwin Creek Trail to cross over a stream. Luckily I was wearing waterproof boots. I think there were a few rocks that you could try to step on in order to cross. Also note that the bridge on the Wetland Trail was out, so don’t try to get out that way. Overall a great experience!!

This is interesting and enjoyable. There are a lot more trails than the trail map shows. You may want to carry a gps if you are in a hurry. Otherwise, just enjoy.
