Reed Gold Mine Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Explore the historic site of the old Reed Gold Mine on this self-guided tour of the now-defunct mining operation. The highlight of the trail is near the start of your hike. You reach a large wooden door built into a hillside and descend belowground to explore underground mine shafts and routes of the mine. You don’t need flashlights or a miner’s cap. It’s well lit throughout the underground portion of the trail and nice and cool down in the mine, making it a great trail during the peak heat of a Charlotte summer. Interpretive plaques throughout the above- and belowground trails provide a great explanation of everything you will be seeing, from mine shafts, mining tools, a stamp mill, and the other natural features on the route. This trail is great for everyone, including kids. If you only get a chance to do a handful of the trails in this book, I highly encourage you to explore the Reed Gold Mine."
