Hiking on Cape Hatteras National Seashore Professional Review and Guide
"The beach at Cape Hatteras National Seashore is basically a 72-mile-long hiking trail. If you’re looking for more structured day hikes, the Seashore has a few marked, cleared trails for hiking and getting deeper into the barrier island ecosystems, such as the salt marsh, hammocks, and maritime forests. The trails mentioned below are marked with interpretive signs that inform visitors about what they’re seeing. Hiking (more like walking) in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is easy due to the flat terrain. Pockets of deep sand are the greatest obstacles to walking that you’ll encounter. These trails are rarely crowded, so you’ll get the solitude you’re craving. If you’re looking for birds and wildlife, walk quietly and be ever vigilant."
