Moore Cove Falls

Moore Cove Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The short, scenic Moore Cove hike leads you across Looking Glass Creek and through a forest dominated by tulip poplar, beech, and hemlock trees. Th e route weaves between two large boulders on either side of the trail and then traverses several footbridges before arriving at the 50-foot Moore Cove Falls. On a hot summer day, many hikers like to cool off in the waterfall’s refreshing shower and cold stream before backtracking to the trailhead.

This waterfall is perfect for standing underneath if you can bear the cold water, but beware of slick rocks and do not try to climb to the top of the falls."

"Moore Cove Falls could be an all-day trip—not because it’s a long hike, but because it’s such a serene and restful place that you could easily lose track of time. The gentle waters of Moore Creek dribble over a small series of stairstep ledges and then rain down 50 feet over a sheer drop to the creek below. The trail goes behind the docile curtain into a large granite cove. You can sit and look through the falling water without getting wet. It’s like watching a summer rain through a window. The cool nook provides plenty of seating and could easily accommodate a group of friends." Read more

"This enjoyable hike passes through the lovely Moore Cove, and then leads you to the unique Moore Cove Falls. The waterfall flows over a massive cliff that juts out enough to form a “rock house” behind it. A cool, damp, open cavern is formed, and you can go behind the falls and sit a spell. On the way to the falls, you’ll make a few creek crossings that are perfectly spaced for the dogs to enjoy the water as much as you do." Read more
