Moses Cone and Julian Price Memorial Parks Professional Review and Guide
"Moses Cone Memorial Park was formed from the estate of textile magnate Moses Cone and includes 25 miles of 2 percent grade carriage trails and the manor house, which is now a craft center. Moses Cone Park includes Bass and Trout Lakes. Julian Price Memorial Park—named for the founder of the Jefferson Standard Life and Pilot Life Insurance Companies—also includes a medium-size lake. Together they comprise over 7,500 acres of a diverse landscape.
Once on the trail turn left and follow the well-marked carriage trail around the lake. This first section is excellent for Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Winter Wrens, Eastern Wood-Pewees, Brown Creepers, Red-breasted Nuthatches, and Blackburnian, Canada, and Black-throated Blue Warblers. When you reach thehemlocks, listen for Golden-crowned Kinglets, Veeries, Wood Thrushes, and Scarlet Tanagers. In summer check for Wood Ducks on the lake. During migration you may find a variety of waterfowl including Ring-necked Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes, and Hooded Mergansers."
