Little River near Goldsboro

Little River (near Goldsboro) Professional Review and Guide

"The Little River described here has a long run, but the watershed is fairly narrow. It begins in Franklin County near Youngsville, northeast of Wake Forest, and flows south to southeast into Wake County, passing between Wendell and Zebulon. The Little River flows under I-95 to the east of Smithfield and Selma, and it joins the Neuse River on the west side of Goldsboro.

The Little River is one of the Neuse River’s largest and cleanest tributaries. It flows through rural land with no towns on its banks. The Triangle Land Conservancy completed a two-year inventory and declared the river Nationally Significant. It contains two federally endangered species of mussels. This eTrail contains 7 sections of the Little River from Atkinson's Mill at NC 42 to US 117 access on Neuse River at Goldsboro."

Section 4 Update: Change "Estimated minimum is 150 cfs (1.9 ft)" to "Minimum is 65 cfs (1.4 ft)." Change the section distance from 10.3 miles to 9.5 miles. Delete the last paragraph: "At 600 cfs (4.0 ft), water flows straight ahead and also down a channel (mi 7.5) to the right. The right channel cuts off a loop and is 0.9 miles shorter." The longer loop shown on topo maps as the main channel is being bypassed by changes in the river course. The shorter run is what paddlers will see as the normal route.
